Who is Thaksin Shinawatra? .... Part 1

Thaksin Shinawatra was the 23rd Prime Minister of Thailand and leader of the populist Thai Rak Thai party.

Thaksin grew up in the village of Sankamphaeng until he was 15, after which he moved to Chiang Mai city to study at Montfort College.In 1973 he graduated from the Police Cadet Academy in Thailand. After completing his Masters in Criminal Justice from East Kentucky University in 1975 , he completed a doctorate degree in Criminal Justice, Sam Houston State University, U.S.A. in 1978.His thesis for his doctorate was "An Analysis of the Relationship Between the Criminal Justice Educational Process and the Attitude of the Student's Torward the Rule of Law."

Upon returning to Thailand , he married Potjaman Damapong, the daughter of a police general, in 1980. Thaksin and his wife ventured into several businesses while Thaksin was still in the police force. These included opening a silk shop, opening a movie theatre, and developing an apartment building. All of these ventures were failures.....
